folklife has been trying to distance itself from hippies playing fiddles for 20 years. as a fiddle-playing hippie, more or less, i’m done. fuck ’em. i’m not giving them money, i’m not applying to lead workshops for them, i’m not organizing jam hosts when they fuck up their schedule and give me eight hours to fill, i’m not spending hours writing up my thoughts on how they can better live up to their mission, i’m not trying to wrangle artists who are fed up with them into providing feedback. i’m out. no great loss for them, i’m sure. if the contra band i’m in plays there, i’ll do that. and since a good portion of my wardrobe is folklife t-shirts (i’m wearing one now, in fact), i’ll probably be advertising them for the foreseeable future. but i’m done giving them energy when they so clearly don’t want it. author josh posted on 2017/11/02 categories general 1 comment on yeah, i’m out. more adventures in homeownership when we came home from a weekend away last week, the house smelled like gas. it had been smelling faintly of gas in the past, but just in the laundry room, and mostly after we’d run a load through the dryer. i figured the dryer had a sticky valve, and that it was leaking a bit after a load. nothing that made me concerned it was going to explode, anyway. but coming home to the smell being strong enough to notice as we walked in was alarming. so we opened the doors and windows to vent the house, and i pulled out the dryer to check for a leak between the shutoff valve and the appliance, which would be an easy fix. ex
